School
Profile The school community believes that a diversity of cultures and values brings richness to the school, developing tolerance and understanding and exposing students to other ways of thinking. More than half of the students are from language backgrounds other than English. The school community includes a significant number of families from Horn of Africa countries as well as smaller numbers of Vietnamese, Chinese and Turkish families. Kensington Primary School is a multicultural and dynamic school, committed to delivering the curriculum (Victorian Essential Learning Standards) and supporting all students to achieve their best. Whilst maintaining academic rigor is extremely important, Kensington Primary also highly values social and cultural learning. Our Bounce Back program helps build student's social skills and increases their resilience enabling them to bounce back. The Gardening club builds on students social responsibility as they are involved in recycling, composting and planting and maintaining the school grounds. The highly successful Clubs program, which changes focus from year to year involves students in a multi-age setting to participate in studies of the arts with a cultural, social or historical focus. This year focus is on the work of fine artists on the subject of water. The school is involved in many exciting programs and partnerships that enrich the curriculum (Victorian Essential Learning Standards). CeLLs and SCRAYP are two of our ongoing projects. CeLLs (Creating E-Learning Leaders) is an exciting project that which is about demonstrating exemplary and innovative practice in the teaching and learning of technology involving both students and teachers. SCRAYP - Youth Arts with an Edge, is run by a group of performing artists who work with the students at Kensington Primary School. The project is about representing and interpreting young people's worlds through performance art, enabling individual empowerment, active community engagement and the potential for substantial social change. The programs and exciting projects that take place at Kensington Primary School are made possible due to an enthusiastic and committed team of teachers, students, parents and our local community.
